![]() They spent a lot of time working through various solutions and options for us. ![]() Our house is 50 years old and has renovations. After trying to see if we could fix the water heater, G force worked with us to figure out a solution to relocate our water heater. Our crawl space is prone to flooding and we lost our water heater due to heavy rain 8/9/17. The quality and care that their work exhibits has certainly earned my repeat business. I recommend this group without hesitation. My yard was smooth (and seeded) when they were done digging, and their drywall cuts were communicated in advance, cut on the square, and easy for me to patch back in. Furthermore, their team worked hard to manage the damage that some jobs cause, such as turf damage when digging the yard, and sheet rock damage when replacing pipes. Each of these jobs were clearly quoted and were done in such a way that they will not need to be addressed again for a long time. Over the past few years, they have installed a hot water heater, whole-house pressure regulator, front yard sewage line, and backwater valve in my home. G Force has provided excellent service in a timely way on multiple occasions. As an owner of an aging home, I am quite familiar with encountering plumbing issues that require immediate attention. G Force Plumbing is an excellent firm to deal with and I highly recommend them. ![]() Oh, and I really like their maintenance plan! Thanks GForce and thanks Mike! I was not simply another job to them they all took their time with me on the phone and didn't rush me off. Everyone I spoke to was wonderful from the first call until my call to let them know how great Mike and his work are. Not everyone things of that detail and it is major for me. In all honesty Mike really sealed the deal when he came out to quote because of the person he is and with one simple act - he locked my gate so my animals wouldn't get out. He didn't even think twice about putting my hose away other plumbers have left it on the ground. I have dogs and he made certain my gate was locked every time he entered/exited and he was great with them. I have to say with Mike it was the little things that he did that added up to make all the difference. He was very conscientious with his work, check and rechecked, and made sure everything was back in its correct place, in order and working fine. In fact, he took the time to show me and explain the process every step of the way. He knew I was stressed about the work so he took the time to show me the pipe and how rusted it was. Not only was he on time and professional but he completed the work without issue. I just had my water line from the street to the house replaced. ![]() As they swim, they detect food along the muddy bottom of the river, stream, pond or lake using only their sensitive bills, since the animals actually close their eyes, ears and nostrils while foraging underwater, according to the Australian Museum. ![]() They hunt for their food in the water where they live. Diet Platypuses' waterproof, thick fur keeps them warm in chilly weather, and their big tails store extra fat for energy, according to the Australian Platypus Conservatory. They have been found in plateaus, lowlands, tropical rainforests, and the cold mountains of Tasmania and the Australian Alps. Though they exist on only one side of one continent, platypuses weather many climatic extremes. Platypuses also take shelter under rock ledges, roots and debris, according to the Australian Platypus Conservatory. They can stay underwater for only 30 to 140 seconds, the Australian Museum notes.ĭuring the day, they hide out in burrows on the shore, where earthen tunnels open up into oval-shaped underground chambers, according to the San Diego Zoo. The animals spend about 10 to 12 hours a night in the water, hunting for food they are most active during nighttime and dusk, because they are nocturnal. ![]() Platypuses occupy freshwater systems - including river basins, lakes, ponds and streams - throughout their habitat range. The creatures can also be found on Tasmania and King Island, as well as on Kangaroo Island, where platypuses were introduced by humans in the early 1900s. Platypuses live in Australia in a range that extends from western Victoria to about as far north as Cooktown in Queensland, meaning they occupy a large stretch of the east and southeast coast of the country, according to the Australian Platypus Conservatory. In humans, the pain from a platypus sting can be treated with nerve blockers, which block specific nerve cells from sending signals to the brain. This venom is not lethal to platypuses or humans, but it causes swelling and excruciating pain, and it can disrupt wound healing and the function of cell membranes, she noted. The venom itself contains a cocktail of more than a dozen proteins that belong to three major classes of toxins, op den Brouw wrote. To inject its venom, a male wraps its legs around its victim and drives the spurs through the animal's flesh, according to op den Brouw. The venom glands of adult males fluctuate in size throughout the year, reaching their maximum size during breeding season, when males use their venom to compete for mates. Young females also have these spurs, but they lose them in the first year of life. Male platypuses carry venom glands, located near their pelvises, that connect to hollow spurs on their hind legs, according to a blog written by Bianca op den Brouw, a toxinologist at the University of Melbourne in Australia. The skin of the bill holds tens of thousands of sensory receptors that help the platypus navigate underwater and detect movement of potential food, such as shrimp, according to the Australian Platypus Conservatory. The bill of a platypus resembles that of a duck and has a smooth texture that feels like suede. The animals walk on their knuckles to protect the webbing, according to a 2001 report in the Journal of Experimental Biology. When platypuses are on land, their webbing retracts, making the claws more pronounced, according to National Geographic. Scientists are still investigating this question.Ī platypus's front feet have extra skin that acts like a paddle when the animal is swimming. She told Vanity Fair, a decade later: “I had studio heads say to me, ‘You could have been the biggest star in America, but you were born in the wrong country. At 25, already a television star in Mexico, Hayek moved to Hollywood, only to find that “no one would hire me”. Her father was an oil executive who once ran for mayor of their port city of Coatzacoalcos, her mother an opera singer who funded a music programme for less well-off children. She was born into an affluent, cultured Mexican family, with Lebanese ancestry. She became a mother at 41 and married 18 months later. Hayek was a late bloomer, personally and professionally. That itself I think is important.”Ī scene from The Prophet, Salma Hayek’s adaptation of the prose poetry book by Kahlil Gibran. It’s a book written by an Arabic man, which unites all religions. It’s not a religious book, it’s poetic and philosophical. It’s been read by generation after generation without ever really having fame. Gibran’s classic has sold over 100m copies worldwide, in 50 languages, since it was first published in 1923. Hayek sees the message of the book as particularly important to women, because it is “about the courage to speak up, to believe you are worth being listened to,” she says. On International Women’s Day, Hayek will present the UK premiere of The Prophet as part of Southbank Centre’s Women of the World festival. Immediately he ushers us to a table by the leaded windows overlooking the park. He looks past me, out of the window, and sees her just as she tips her perfect profile upwards to the early spring sunshine like a leading lady finding her spotlight. Well, yes, except there is a howling wind that means I won’t be able to record our conversation, and it’s too chilly to sit outdoors, so I duck back into the restaurant, find the manager, and explain that Hayek is a huge movie star. I would die if I did nothing but manicures and lunches. Hayek seems quite relaxed – it’s a nice day for a walk in the park, she says. Hayek asks very nicely: could we perhaps just have a coffee? But the attendant, who doesn’t recognise her, politely shows us the door. But it is mid-afternoon, and the place is just about to close, the cloakroom attendant explains. The Belvedere Restaurant is quiet and serene, with white tablecloths and stem vases on the tables. But she’ll show me the way, she says, leading me in the direction of a restaurant elsewhere in west London’s Holland Park, chatting merrily about nothing in particular – the weather, Milan fashion week, how she needs a coffee. Sure enough, when she arrives – tiny, radiant, swathed in cashmere, flanked by a bodyguard and an assistant who is being dragged along by Hayek’s golden labrador, Lolita – it turns out this isn’t the place she had in mind. ![]() It’s not quite somewhere I can picture Hayek – Oscar nominee, billionaire’s wife, Hollywood bombshell – hanging out, so I wait outside. It’s the kind of cafe where you queue with a plastic tray, next to a noticeboard of flyers for Monkey Music and community gardening projects, for a polystyrene cup of PG Tips with the teabag left in. And I’d watched her new film, an animation of Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, aimed at families: a “passion project” that is charming, beautifully crafted, impeccably well-intentioned – but, nonetheless, could perhaps do with wearing its learning a little more lightly.Įxpecting grandeur, I am a little taken aback to arrive at the Park Cafe, appointed by Hayek’s people for our interview, to find it isn’t an ironically named smart restaurant, as I had assumed. Or at least that’s how it had always come across to me. There, she rocks a kind of boss’s wife vibe, dressed to the nines in the designer’s clothes. Because we both go to a lot of catwalk shows, I see her all the time: I’m there as a reporter, and she’s there because her husband Francois-Henri Pinault is the CEO of Kering, the luxury group that owns Gucci, Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Bottega Veneta, among others. Unsisterly though it sounds, I didn’t expect to like Salma Hayek very much. ![]() The Switch-like approach cuts a gamepad in half and positions it on either side of your gaming phone screen, increasing comfort and allowing the controller to be powered by your device. The wraparound design was first introduced back when mobile controllers were just getting started in the big leagues. However, there are certain use cases in which one makes more sense than the other. We've spent countless hours thumb-tapping with each model, and both are excellent gamepads. The Razer Kishi V2 and Backbone One may look similar, but under the surface, there are plenty of features, design factors, and compatibility differences to make your decision tricky. However, if you want to use wired headphones or are looking for a superior companion iOS app, you’re better off with the Backbone One.If you're on the hunt for a wraparound mobile controller, you've likely come across two big names. The Kishi V2 also has the advantage of working with at least some iPhone cases, whereas you’ll always have to take your iPhone out of its case to use the Backbone One. Was it worth sacrificing part of each trigger for the L4 and R4 buttons? I guess that depends on whether you have games where they’d be useful, but personally, it’s not something I’ve ever wished for in an iOS controller. The Kishi’s triggers have more throw and a little more tension than the Backbone One, which I also like, but are smaller because of the L4 and R4 buttons and louder than the BackBone One’s triggers. However, the Kishi’s Nexus access, screenshot, and function buttons are all clickier and louder than the Backbone One’s versions of those buttons. Those buttons are also slightly quieter than the Backbone One’s. Also, the Kishi’s A, B, X, and Y buttons require a little less force to press than those of the Backbone One, making rapid fire button mashing a little easier. The Kishi has domed A, B, X, and Y buttons that are tightly clustered, while the Backbone One’s are flatter and spread out a bit, which I prefer. The design of the Razer Kishi 2 is so close to the Backbone One, though, that it’s going to be the little things that ultimately will draw someone to one of these controllers over the other. The Kishi’s programmable L4 and R4 buttons required it to shrink the controller’s triggers. That, in turn, has prompted me to try a lot of different controllers and conclude that with the iPhone, nothing beats an integrated Nintendo Switch-style controller solution. It’s not everything I think gaming could be on the iPhone, but it’s not bad either.ĭespite Apple’s perplexing relationship with videogames, the last few years have seen the company expand controller support, which has gradually led to an increase in support among developers. ![]() ![]() With a fast enough WiFi connection, I’ve even found myself streaming games from my Xbox Series X, Microsoft Game Pass, and PlayStation 5. Other times, it’s an indie platformer like the Dadish series or a classic Nintendo handheld game via Delta. ![]() For me, that occasionally takes the form of an Apple Arcade game like the excellent Shovel Knight Dig that was released on the service last week, and I’ll cover this week on MacStories Unwind. That said, there is still gaming fun to be had on the iPhone. When I look at the innovation happening in handheld gaming at all levels with devices like the Analogue Pocket and Steam Deck, I can’t help but wonder, “What if Apple really jumped into the videogame market and put the power of its hardware and software design teams behind devices that could play everything from Candy Crush Saga to Elden Ring?” Apple hasn’t, and I don’t expect it will, but every time I use my iPhone, I look at its gorgeous ProMotion OLED display and want to use it for more than the gaming experiences that the App Store offers. It is unfortunately not free, but $9.99 is not a huge cost. The Mac program which is most often mentioned in this forum is Metadatics, which has fairly similar capabilities. If you were using Windows, my strong recommendation would be for MP3Tag, which I use. Thirdly, you are going to need a grid-based tagging program so that you can tag multiple files in one go. So, if you could still do it without too much hassle, I would generate a set of FLAC files to use in MinimServer. Using MinimStreamer, you can also natively transcode FLAC files back to WAV (ideally WAV24). Secondly, file format preferences do tend to spark controversy, but my view is that, of all the lossless formats to which you could convert your WAV files, FLAC will give as good a sound result as any and its tagging system (Vorbis) is relatively straightforward. That much I think you knew, but it bears repeating. So my question is what would be the preferred or recommended approach to take this large collection of wav files into Minimserver and appropriately tagged them so they are visible normally in my Lumin control point IPAD App? Thanks in advance.īTW I also tried to import the AIFF files into ITUNES hoping it would automatically tag them for me.No luck with that approachįirstly, the advice from the author of MinimServer, simoncn, is clear: files need to be tagged for most of MinimServer's core features to work. So I tried to use MusicTag Editor on MAC to tag the albums one at a time which has always worked in the past. They were not visible from Artist, Album, Genre, etc. ![]() I could only see the files from the "Folder view" on the Lumin IPAD app. BLISS called them out as unsupported music files.
