![]() Later feminist theories remind us, rather, that gender is a social relationship, based upon the promotion of hierarchy, and one that is reiterated through interactions in everyday life. However, sometimes this notion of gender as a set of cultural practices has been reduced to role or identity, so that gender is treated as a preexisting characteristic or property of the individual. Second-wave feminism, for example, separated the concept of “sex” from “gender,” in order to show that “gender” refers to a set of social expectations that may be challenged ( Oakley, 1972 Unger, 1979). ![]() In part, these points relate to the ways in which gender is defined. This tends to individualize gender, to see it as a personal characteristic, and to see gender oppression merely as a form of personal behavior or values. While he does go on to point out that social, rather than biological, processes produce gender, it is largely at the level of attitudes that his suggestions for change are leveled. Thompson’s text, for example, describes gender as a “fundamental dimension of human experience, revealing an ever-present set of differences between men and women” ( Thompson, 2012: 55). Yet these, too, often rely upon limited accounts. Third, the question of how power works within social work institutions, and how this relates to gender, is likely to be a lot more complicated.ĭiscussions about challenging oppression and discrimination within social work theory and practice are some of the few occasions on which gender is openly acknowledged ( Dominelli, 2002a Mullaly, 2007 Thompson, 2012). First, the smaller number of men in the profession may actually hold more institutional power, and, second, a profession like social work is, as with many fields involving the care of others, devalued. This is an important argument since, to describe social work as “female-dominated” suggests that, merely because they are far greater in number, women hold more power. Yet, McPhail has argued that “social work is more correctly described as a female majority, male-dominated profession” ( McPhail, 2004b: 325), because, although there are many more women than men in the field, they do not necessarily dominate. It is frequently overlooked and, perhaps more importantly, where it is considered, gender is theorized in a number of rather limited ways.įor example, social work is often described as a female-dominated profession, but one in which men disproportionately occupy senior roles. Although a key feature of everyday life, within social work, gender has what sociologists sometimes call a “seen-but-unnoticed” quality. It is concerned, more precisely, with the conceptualization and usage of “gender” within social work theory, research, and practice. This article is a contribution to opening up the conversation on gender and social work.

This leads to hoof rot and a higher chance of infection. Longer hooves are more prone to breakage. This also affects pasture management as they’re unable to graze as far, allowing some areas of the field to grow up and some areas to remain unfertilized by their manure. If you’re wondering what makes Thongs of Virtue different, you need to look towards the subtle alterations in setting and tone. There are numerous pop culture and gaming references laced into the extensive script, and while the reliance on conventional gameplay tricks blunts a few of the jokes, the general silliness always shines through. Like its predecessor, Thongs of Virtue is a self-aware parody of the RPG genre and video game logic in general. Of course, the game’s real appeal lies in the offbeat humor that frequently upstages the action. You can still use fortune cookies to purchase answers to puzzles and you’ll still spend a lot of time running in circles while gobbling down healing platters of pizza and frie The gameplay consists of unremarkable hack-and-slash combat that takes you through a series of colorful monsters and locale You can equip up to four weapons and four items at any given time and all of the other mechanics are unchanged from the original. A fantasy game in which the three main villains are corrupt incarnations of Mother Theresa, Rachel Ray, and Santa Claus has some obvious charm, and Thongs of Virtue manages to drag plenty of punch lines out of the insanity. The plot is a thinly veiled knockoff of the Lord of the Rings, but that’s a fine launch point for satire. DeathSpank was light on plot, and everything you need to know is recapped within the first ten minute You play as DeathSpank, a thong-clad dispenser of justice on a quest to gather and destroy the six Thongs of Virtue in the fires from which they were made. That’s true even if you haven’t played the original. Thongs of Virtue offers nearly 15 hours of gameplay for a mere $15, so you’re practically guaranteed to get your moneys worth out of the title. Developer Hothead has cooked up some new creatures and new environments, and there’s no denying the game’s strong financial value. Is that worth another purchase? It depends, but you could definitely do a lot worse than DeathSpank. Most of what I said then still applies now, and if you liked the first game, you’ll probably like the second, because it’s essentially more of the same.

Today, the old county jail remains closed to the public and under renovation with hopes of reopening for tours in the future. Some of these encounters have been documented in newspapers, such as shadow figures, voices, and footsteps. Paranormal investigators have been combing over the building for years looking for evidence of paranormal activity, capturing things like cell doors slamming, lights flickering, and even full-bodied apparitions. Staff all agree that the old jail is haunted because of the hangings that took place there, as well as the reported violence that occurred within the jail cells. The jail, per many witnesses and paranormal investigators, is haunted by the ghosts of its former residents. This property is so well known for its haunts, that the NRHP’s nomination form mentions that the building has a haunted reputation within the local folklore. For the last several decades, it has served as home to the Hamilton County Historical Society. When the jail closed in 1984, it was the oldest operating jail in Florida. The Old Hamilton County Jail was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. She was never convicted but was asked to leave the county. Due to extremely cold weather, the sheriff allowed her to leave the jail. It was alleged that the woman poisoned her husband. A female prisoner and her baby were housed for several months in the 1920s. Among the collected stories of past inmates are the reported suicide of a female prisoner and the deaths of several male prisoners. Executions were not the only deaths that occurred on the grounds. Historians note that in the early 20th century, three people were executed here by hanging, one Caucasian man and two African Americans. These hanging became a public spectacle, bringing throngs of local folks to watch the primitive executions. Both of the sheriff’s children were born inside the building. ![]() The county jail was also home to the local sheriff and his family whose job it was to care for the inmates. Todoist and Swipes app alone can do this on mobile.Įverdo cannot filter by more than one tag but it gets around that by splitting tags into six different categories (Areas, Contexts, Contacts, Time, Energy, Labels) This is why we need systems like Swipes app and Todoist that let us apply more than one context to the same task and then a quick touchable filter that lets us toggle on more than one tag at a time to get to our specific context quickly. This is where the mobile app can really thrive. If I want to make a gadget and I can design the doohickey or and I can research gadget dooickey stuff then you will run into problems because you will need to copy the same task to and and then when you have three next actions in 3 different contexts it is hard to remember that they all belong to the same project. There was no way to link next actions from the same project across different contexts. I’ve read GTD several times taking extensive notes and at that time I used a pocket pad of paper for several years but I found that the trouble was… If we can define where they are generated (or spawned), this would probably help manage the possible chaos of many tasks being generated from many diffferent places.I have demoed every single task app in the Play store for months at a time, leaving them on my phone and coming back to them from time to time to check if they have upgraded them with the necessary features.īefore the mobile phone erra I was a David Allen fanatic. It would be useful considering the dynamic nature of dynalist, if I could define a repetive task, but also define where it appears (example, to define in which node, like the Inbox, that the recurring task should be generated.) the problem with dynalist and many documents, you might have repetive tasks being generated, but then you have to go look for them. I have a place where I have all my recurring tasks defined, and then once a week when I do a weekly review of my schedule (GTD old school), I duplicate the repetitive task and set the date for the task on the duplicate. I would add, I already do repeating tasks in Dynalist. This has also proved to be a slick way to generate repetive tasks. You define the card template, how often it should repeat and where the card should appear when its generated. Tasks that begin at the beginning of a month or at the end of the month.Īnother simple but flexible solution is the Trello “Repeater” powrup.a task may repeat on certain days of the week (Example: a task that has to be performed Tuesdays and Thursdays).a task repeats on a time based interval (example: repeat this item once a month, or every two weeks and so on).So this would be probably less powerful than MLO, but still very powerful.Īnother user mentioned Todist, and that might be the best model to folllow as the “common denominator” that covers most use scenarios.įor me, recurring tasks fall into a few categories: While I dislike Outlook tasks, the repeating feature is reasonably robust. So it might be overkill.Īnother very solid repeating task solution is found in Outlook. So if that was implemented, it would be well beyond our imagination and the needs of the average user. MLO though has one of the most advanced repeating engines. I like other users in this forum used MLO and loved it (but no web version, so bye bye). ![]() I would add that recurring dates (or tasks) are a very well established field and its good the wheel does not need to be reinvented for recurring tasks. The recurring date feature will provide Dynalist with a crucial component to making it a time management tool.
